Pedal Into Summer: Bike Rodeo a Hit at Compo Beach

This year’s Parks & Rec “Kickoff to Summer” event was an incredible success for Bike Westport. Over 100 children participated in our Bike Rodeo, led by Officer Craig Bergamo of the Westport Police Department. 🚓 🚴‍♀️

We had the chance to speak with dozens of parents — and one thing was overwhelmingly clear: Families want safe, accessible, and fun ways for their kids to ride bikes.

Parents are searching for:

  • Help teaching their kids to ride

  • Safe routes for family biking

  • Better ways for kids to ride to school

This isn’t just a wish — it’s a need. Safe streets for all shouldn’t be a privilege. It should be a given. And this event made it clear: the work ahead is important, and it’s supported.

A huge thank you to Westport’s Bike & Ski Shop CB Sportif for being such a vital part of the day. Their expert team kept bikes in great shape, offered free helmet checks, and shared awesome swag and service discounts with families.

They’re not just a shop — they’re advocates. Just recently, they hosted an e-bike safety community forum, and they’ll continue to be a strong voice for safer streets in Westport.

Also, THANK YOU to Northeast Community Cycles for providing us with half a dozen bicycles for our event.

As a community based 501(c)3 non-profit organization, located at 772 Post Road East, 2nd Floor, their volunteers clean and refurbish donated bicycles and give them away "FREE" to needy children and adults.

If you have bikes that you no longer use, THIS is the place to donate them to.

We’re building something together — and the energy is real. From parents to police, businesses to students, the safe streets movement in Westport is gaining momentum.

Let’s keep riding — and walking — forward.
